Interview Week: How It Went Down

After sending out about a hundred applications for Software Engineer/Full Stack Developer positions last week, I braced for impact thinking again I would only be receiving rejection.

Luckily, on the contrary, I was shocked to see multiple emails inviting to schedule first round interviews (aka screening interviews) and coding assessments.

So, for you to get an idea of what I went through, here’s a detailed run on my first round week:

Interview #1— (Full Stack Developer)

Can’t say much about this one because I signed an NDA. Overall, it’s been a easygoing experience and hope to move on to next steps.

Interview #2 — (Full-Stack Software Engineer)

This one is a furniture store providing rapid and hassle-free service. Definitely on the e-commerce side of things but was interesting enough for me to give it a try. Unfortunately, the position wasn’t a fit for me. The person interviewing was very nice and mentioned sending my resume over to another department which he believed would be better for my skills. I haven’t heard back but we’ll see over the next few days.

Interview #3 — (Software Engineer)

I somehow did not realize this one wasn’t a job. It’s actually a free bootcamp that will mentor to increase my networking skills and do great during behavioral interviews. Had to think about it twice but accepted to take part of it hoping to improve my overall presence as a software engineer and job candidate.

Interview #4 & #5— (Software Engineer)

Typical technical interview/assessments. #5 was quite the same as every other HackerRank problem. #6 was the same but…50 MINUTES FOR THREE WHOLE PROBLEMS?! Honestly, all I can say I tried but don’t expect moving onto the next step.

And that’s how my initial/screening interview week went. I’m just hoping for the best and look out for having a position that best suits me soon.

I will be updating you on second rounds in my next post!

Best of luck to anybody else going through interviews. Don’t give up and definitely keep practicing you technical and soft interview skills. Keep applying and definitely network.

Until next week…
